Local, indigenous, native lilies irises and orchids
These native lilies irises and orchids are indigenous to the Maroondah, Manningham and Yarra Ranges council areas and are perfectly adapted to these locations. Seeds are collected by experienced and licensed collectors and grown locally, for private gardens council land and revegetation areas.

Arthropodium milleflorum
Common Name: Pale Vanilla Lily
Size: 0.3-1m Tall * 30cm Wide
Requirements: Full or part sun. Moist to swampy soils.
Localities: Uncommon now in Maroondah, also occurs in the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Grass-like tufted perennial herb. Usefull in mass plantings, informal drifts and container growing. Summer deciduous.

Common Name: Chocolate Lily
Size: 0.2-1m Tall * 0.2-0.6m Wide
Requirements: Full to part sun. Well drained, moist to dry soils.
Localities: Common in reserves throughout Maroondah, Manningham and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Dwarf, tufting perennial herb. Attractive little herb with scented flowers, best used on mass or amongst other plants.
Bulbine bulbosa
Common Name: Bulbine Lily
Size: 0.2-0.6m Tall * 30cm Wide
Requirements: Full to partial sun. Moist, well drained soils.
Localities: Common throughout Maroondah, the Shire of Yarra Ranges and Manningham.
Densely tufted herbaceous perennial. Ideal to add interest amongst grasses and other
plants, or in containers. Summer deciduous.
Chamaescilla corymbosa
Common Name: Blue Stars
Size: 7-20cm Tall * 10-20cm Wide
Requirements: Full sun to partial shade. Moist, well drained or swampy soils.
Localities: Many areas throughout Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges, some within Manningham.
Small perennial herbaceous lily. Use to brighten up grassy areas or in rockeries amongst other plants. Summer deciduous.
Dianella admixta: Formerly: Dianella revoluta var. revoluta.
Common Name: Spreading flax
Size: 0.3-1m Tall * 0.5-2.5m Wide.
Requirements: Full or partial sun. Well drained, dry or moist soils.
Localities: Common throughout Maroondah, Manningham and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Open tufted perennial spreading by rhizomes. Very drought tolerant. Bird berry provider and butterfly foliage provider. Grows well under established trees. Formerly Dianella revoluta var. revoluta.
Dianella laevis: Formerly: Dianella longifolia var. longifolia.

Requirements: Partial to full shade. Moist soils, tolerates swampy conditions.
Localities: Common throughout Maroondah, Manningham and Yarra Ranges.
Robust and vigorous tufted perennial spreading by rhizomes. Excellent large plant for a shaded situation. Bird berry provider. Good soil stabiliser.
Diplarrena morea
Common Name: Butterfly Flag
Size: 0.3-0.6m Tall * 0.5-1m Wide
Requirements: Full or partial sun. Well drained, moist soils.
Localities: Restricted range in the Yarra Ranges.
A very attractive plant suitabe for container growing or amongst other plants in moist areas.
Patersonia fragilis
Common Name: Short Purple Flag
Size: 10-20cm Tall 40cm Wide
Requirements: Full to part sun. Moist soils, tolerating inundation for short periods.
Localities: Restricted to a very few sites in Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Good showy plant for moist areas. Very useful and attractive, in rockeries and on pond edges.
Flowers are short lived but produced in large numbers.
Patersonia occidentalis
Common Name: Long Purple Flag
Size: 20-40cm Tall * 30-60cm Wide.
Requirements: Full to partial sun. Moist soils, tolerating winter inundation and drying out in summer.Localities: Occasional occurrences throughout Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
An attractive Iris even when not in flower. Use in bog gardens, rockeries and containers. Flowers (September to January) are short lived, but are produced in abundance.
Pterostylis nana
Common Name: Dwarf Greenhood
Size: Stems 5-15cm Tall, rosette about 5cm Wide.
Requirements: Full sun through to full shade. Moist well drained soils.
Localities: Quite widespread, found in Maroondah, Manningham and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Plant for interest or in pots. Easily grown. Dies back to a tuber over the dry summer period. Can form large colonies in ideal conditions. Tubers of orchids were eaten by Indigenous Australians.
Pterostylis nutans
Common Name: Nodding Greenhood
Size: Stem 10-30cm Tall.
Requirements: Part to full shade. Moist, well drained soils.
Localities: Occasional occurrences in Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Small rosette forming perennial herb capable of forming large colonies over time. Dies down to a tuber over summer. Indigenous Australians ate the tubers.
